Avicola Braşov ended the first quarter of this year with a turnover which increased 9%, from 27.8 million lei to 30.4 million lei. At the end of the first quarter, the poultry maker posted a net profit of 52,000 lei, after announcing a loss of 167,000 lei in Q1 2012.
Even though the turnover has increased, revenues fell almost 4% in Q1 2013, to 29.8 million lei, whereas expenses fell 5%, to 29.7 million lei. In Q1 2012, revenues reached 31 million lei, and expenses reached 31.2 million lei.
The company ended last year with a turnover of 117.8 million lei (26.4 million Euros), up 11%, and a profit of 624,000 lei (140,000 Euros). In 2011, Avicola Braşov had a turnover of 105.7 million lei and a profit of 618,000 lei.
The company was taken over by businessman Ioan Popa in August 2007, following the acquisition of the block of shares owned by the employees' association and of the stake of SIF Transilvania, worth a combined four million Euros, through a deal estimated at four million Euros. Popa currently holds over 88% of the shares and is interested in delisting the company from the Rasdaq tier of the BSE. According to his statements, Popa has invested over 10 million Euros in Avicola Braşov.
