Gabriel Oprea can now ask for an official convoy legally

The protesters who took to the street after the Colectiv tragedy were contesting Gabriel Oprea because of the death of policeman Bogdan Gigină, who was leading the path of the minister's official convoy, and of the fire of the "Colectiv" club, two events which occurred in quick succession.

Discontent was already brewing when the young people in question burned alive in the club, and protesters considered that Gabriel Oprea bore the blame for both incidents.

At the time, president Klaus Iohannis summoned the representatives of the street to consultations, in an attempt to make it look like their grievances mattered to him and that he felt for them.

In the same vein, Klaus Iohannis participated in one of the protests, a scene which was broadcasted by every network, and many newspapers and mentioned on the radio. At the time, Klaus Iohannis said: "I have noted your complaints, I will take them into account!"

The outcome of the "Colectiv" incident was the fall of the Ponta government, including Gabriel Oprea.

Now, the president has passed the law that allows the heads of parliamentary political parties, including Gabriel Oprea, to be accompanied by official convoys.

How in touch is president Klaus Iohannis with the protesters' grievances, which he has "taken into account"?

Should we take it to mean that protesters have asked him to legalize the use of official convoys in the case of Gabriel Oprea?

Isn't that in fact a gesture that denotes lack of sensitivity?

In other words, being inconsiderate.

President Klaus Iohannis has signed yesterday the decree promulgating the law which stipulates that the SPP is also allowed to provide protection to the presidents of the parliamentary parties, upon their request.

The law for the approval of the Emergency Government Ordinance no. 43/2015 concerning some measures to ensure the vehicles used for the transportation of classified vehicles and for the amendment of some laws has been approved by the Chamber of Deputies at the end of December last year.

The emergency ordinance was passed by the Senate without the part that stipulates that party presidents benefit from the protection of the SPP, but that part was reintroduced by the Chamber of Deputies, which was the decision maker for this draft law.

The idea for this law came from the former government, led by Victor Ponta, which published in the Official Gazette the emergency ordinance in question less than 48 hours after the death of policeman Bogdan Gigina, who was part of the convoy that was escorting deputy prime-minister Gabriel Oprea, who is now being investigated by the National Anti-corruption for abuse in office.

According to the law, are entitled to an convoy protected by the SPP Liviu Dragnea, the head of the PSD, PNL co-presidents Alina Gorghiu and Vasile Blaga, UNPR leader Gabriel Oprea, that of the UDMR Kelemen Hunor and Călin Popescu Tăriceanu and Daniel Constantin, of the ALDE.

The Parliament has basically turned an Emergency Ordinance issued by the Ponta government into a law.
