The National Salt Company - Salrom SA last year achieved a profit of 38.7 million lei, up 86% over 2012, said Alina Floroian, marketing economist with the company. The turnover of Salrom reached 308.3 million lei, up 13% over 2012, she said. "Salrom is a company with a state-held majority stake which has over 2000 employees, of which only 18% are women. But in the central management from Bucharest, the balance is perfect, as women account for half of the personnel. Salrom is a joint-stock company, owned by the state through the Ministry of the Economy (51%) and by the Proprietatea Fund (49%), being the only authorized salt producer in Romania, but not the only retailer. The company owns seven branches located in the counties of Vâlcea, Prahova, Bacău, Suceava, Harghita, Cluj and Alba.
Alina Floroian also mentioned that the improvements made last year by Salrom include the "Florin Piersic" auditorium in Târgu Ocna and the swimming pool of Praid, which will be commissioned this summer.
In order to efficiently exploit the existing assets for tourism purposes, the management of Salrom has planned an ambitious expansion program to turn the salt mines into quality travel destinations that would meet the standards of the European Union. Mrs. Floroian also said that the company's plan for developing the tourism potential of the salt mines includes both equipping the rest and relaxation areas with high-tech devices, bringing in new leisure times methods (mini-bowling, minigolf, pool tables, karting tracks, inflatable castle etc.), as well as the diversification of the existing products and services (the implementation of an audio-guide system for smartphones).
