Libraries hide immense treasures within them. At the completion of 111 years of continuous activity, the Mureş County Library ranks first nationally among county libraries, with over a million registered documents. The director of the institution, Monica Avram, stated:
"On February 1, 2019, the registration number 1,000,000 was assigned. But, from 2019 to 2024, we are already talking about 5 years, during which at least 20,000 new books have entered our collection, if we put an average of about 5,000 new entries per year, plus periodic obligations, electronic collections that also have inventory numbers. However, given the fact that we have already exceeded 1,000,000 documents for many years, not titles, because titles can have multiple copies, it makes us remain in first place among county libraries in terms of number of collections. So after 111 years of uninterrupted activity, we can say that we are still the first in the country in terms of number of collections, at our level of county libraries." The Mureş County Library operates in a wing of the Palace of Culture in Târgu Mureş and was inaugurated in the same year as the building was put into use, in 1913, the very large number of documents coming from both acquisitions and donations. The titles in multiple copies, especially those coming from donations, are either donated to the public libraries in the county, or are capitalized by the Mureş County Library within a project that runs annually, during the library days, "The Library in the Bus", or are placed on a shelf at the entrance, from where readers can take them home to complete their collections.
Monica Avram also specified: "From the first day of Library Week, the 2024 edition, books have already started circulating on the main passenger transport lines in Târgu Mureş. We also have colleagues from the public libraries in the county that we help, offering them from the surplus we have from donations. Last but not least, we have that shelf at the entrance to the library where these books received through donations from readers are placed, so that those who enter the library can choose a favorite book and take it home. These are not very new books, which is why, given the fact that they have not been reissued, they can certainly be very important sources. All this activity can be a very good source for completing personal collections. I no longer need a book, but someone else certainly does and then there is basically an exchange through the library, an exchange of books within the community." On the occasion of the anniversary of 111 years of continuous activity, the Mureş County Library organizes the Mureş County Library Days, this year the theme being "From intangible heritage to inspiration and knowledge", thus celebrating the importance of information, knowledge and wisdom that only reading can bring. The anniversary program includes the "Library on the Bus", starting with November 18, so that citizens who use public transport have the surprise of finding a box of books, being able to choose their favorite book, browse it during the trip or even take it home. The program also includes a guided tour of the special collections, round tables, reading clubs, debates such as "Convince me to read!", "Reading... a great adventure", "The library at school", through the librarians' visits to the Junior High Schools in Nazna and Sâncraiul de Mureş or "From pragmatism to art", an activity about traditional art.
