The Ministry of Education and the FRF popularize women's football

Versiunea în limba română

Sports activity is an important component of education. Five new football classes for girls will be established this year at the High Schools with Sports Program in Bistriţa, Buzău, Pitesti, Târgu Mureş and Timisoara in order to popularize football among girls and increase their level of involvement/participation in this sport, announces FRF and the Ministry of Education. According to the FRF, the "Training Centers" project contributes to the increase of professionalism in women's football, a national phenomenon that in the last 10 years has meant for Romania an increase in participation from 330 to over 100,000 female players and audience records at the stadium and on TV . The football classes for girls from the High Schools with Sports Program in Bistriţa, Buzău, Pitesti, Târgu Mureş and Timişoara will be established starting from the 2024-2025 school year, from the 9th grades. The Romanian Football Federation contributes to this project by involving specialists with international expertise, as well as material means. According to the Ministry of Education: "The history of the collaboration between the Ministry of Education and the Romanian Football Federation includes school football competitions at the national level such as the National Olympiads of School Sports, the Tymbark Cup and the ISF Cup, which bring approximately 220,000 children and young people to the field every year. Through the establishment of the 5 classes, which will become centers of excellence, the common commitment acquires a new dimension, that of the dual career, the enrolled students having the opportunity to develop their technical skills in football, in parallel with the educational course. Through such a partnership, we fight school dropout, keep young sportswomen in the educational system by offering future opportunities in sports, both as players, but also in fields related to football (e.g. refereeing) and support the careers of sportswomen by establishing these centers in the proximity of the already existing women's football clubs, where the athletes will be able to continue their careers after the end of the junior program".

According to the federation, the choice of the above-mentioned high schools took into account the distribution of classes at the national level.
