The Government has approved the allocation of 100 million RON from the National Development Fund in order to finance 81 projects aimed at developing environmental and water management infrastructure. The projects are grouped into three categories: ensuring water resources (nine projects), flood protection (68 projects) and countering coastal water erosion (four projects).
The projects are located across the country, both in areas that were stricken by floors in the past years, as well as in exposed areas. A budget of 20.4 million RON has been allocated for removing flood effects, whereas 63.6 million RON will help improve flood protection. Some 16 million RON will be spent on consolidating coastal areas to prevent soil erosion. According to Environment and Sustainable Development Minister Attila Korodi, the latter initiative will take up to three years.
