Approximately 2,500 residents of Iasi County have lost their job since the beginning of the year as a result of the ongoing economic slowdown. The number includes actual layoffs and future layoffs for which notice has already been given by the respective employers. Statistics made by the Iasi County Employment Agency, the ratio between jobs lost individually and jobs cut within collective layoff schemes is approximately 1:1.
"According to the notifications received from employers in Iasi County, the number of employees who have lost their job individually is 1,182 whereas the sum of actual layoffs and future layoffs scheduled to be made next month is 1,307," said Maria Cabalau, Director of the Iasi County Employment Agency.
However, she added that not all those who had just lost their job would become unemployed immediately. "When the pre-layoff procedure is carried out, the employer submits a study on the subject. Based on that study, we make our own analysis and offer the persons in question the opportunity to take a new job either locally or even abroad. Additionally, we offer them counsel and professional re-qualification schemes via our own competency centre," Cabalau added. Thus, if those about to lose their job already find new employment via the Agency, they are not entered in the unemployment database of the Agency.
