After Enel - Italy postponed by roughly three months the construction of a thermo-power planned in the Galati Free Zone starting in October 2009, a Romanian company has announced plans to invest 2 million EUR in the same perimeter. Angela Ivan, the Director of the Galati Free Zone, announced that Wind Trade Oil had taken a concession for over 15,000 square metres two weeks before to build an eco-fuel factory. "Wind Trade Oil signed the concession contract for 49 years, with an option to extend it by another 25 years. Their intention is to create 34 jobs for starters," said Angela Ivan.

The Galati Free Zone has organized four tenders since the beginning of the year, but two of the winners have already given up on the land they had just obtained. Specifically, EPK Mining - Galati obtained a concession for 700,000 square metres to build various storage facilities, while Gambeta SRL, a software consultant and developer based in Galati, took a concession for 2,100 square metres to produce parts for storage facilities. "The current financial crisis has probably forced some of the investors to give up," sources from the Galati Free Zone told BURSA.

The Galati Free Zone closed the year 2008 in the black with a turnover of 3.5 million RON and a net profit of 840,000 RON, up two-fold from what was reported for 2007.
