Minister of Economy Adriean Videanu yesterday signed the first six out of 14 projects selected within Chapter 4.2 " Supporting investments in upgrading and building new power and heating production capacities by valorisation of renewable energy sources: biomass, micro hydro, solar, wind, geothermal, bio fuels and other renewable resources" of the Operational Sectoral Programme "Increase of Economic Competitiveness."

Minister Videanu told a press conference that the six projects had a total value of approximately 269 million RON, of which 114 million RON in approved non-reimbursable financing.

The projects will build an overall installed power of 31.55 MW of electric energy and 30.55 MW of thermal energy. The beneficiaries are Hidroconstructia SA, Romelectro SA, Unicom 3N 2000 SRL, Romconstruct Top SRL, Balkan Hydroenergy SRL and the Municipality of Beius.

The implementation of all the 14 projects will deliver six micro-hydropower plants, three wind plants, a photovoltaic installation, a geothermal installation and three biomass-powered plants.

Minister Adriean Videanu further emphasized that the current law for supporting renewable energy production would be amended. The new draft law would be submitted to public debate as soon as a new Government was appointed, he said.

Minister of Economy Adriean Videanu yesterday announced that energy production could be privatized, but not through the sale of assets to strategic investors, but through the establishment of joint ventures with foreign investors. "Privatization will be qualitative and not quantitative. The focus will be on developing business and not on selling assets. We will seek opportunities to do business and not necessarily to sell everything. If we receive an offer we can"t refuse, we will consider selling majority stakes in one company or another," Minister Adriean Videanu said.
