40% of the employees of CFR Marfă temporarily out of work

40% of the employees of CFR Marfă, have become structurally unemployed, due to financial difficulties of the company.

This decision, which was made yesterday in a General Meeting of Shareholders, is intended to cut expenses in order to allow the company to continue its operations.

The management of CFR Marfă says that claims that in order to balance the company"s budget, about 6,000 workers would need to be laid off out of the total of 17,500.

CFR Marfă already owes 100 million lei since February to CFR SA, in infrastructure utilization fees.

General Manager of CFR Marfă, Călin Graţianu, stated that starting today, about 40% of the company"s employees will temporarily enter structural unemployment.

According to Mr. Graţianu, the people will stay home in shifts, over the course of three months.

Călin Graţian mentioned that employees will be receiving 75% of their salary for the duration of the structural unemployment, and will have their labor contracts suspended.

Also yesterday, the Minister of Transports, Radu Berceanu, appointed Ion Garoseanu, vice-president of the Romanian Railway Club, as General Manager of CFR SA.

Prior to this appointment, this position was temporarily held by Viorel Scurtu.
