Approximately 500 workers have quit their job with Damen Shipyard - Galati, partly displeased with their wages and partly tempted by better job offers from abroad. The figure reflects just those who have left since the beginning of the year. Sources from the shipyard commented that the majority of the former employees had left to work abroad for up to 2,000 EUR/month, compared to an average of some 500 EUR/month at Damen. In order not to see delivery deadlines compromised, the Damen management has employed workers from Bulgaria and Ukraine and focuses on more complex ships that sell with a higher added value.
