Present on the domestic natural gas market since 2004, WIEE Romania has constantly increased its market share ever since. The company recently obtained a license to become a provider. Şerban Stănescu, the general manager of WIEE Romania, said: "Our target for the medium term is to create a sustainable portfolio of energy consumers, with which to create long term partnerships. WIEE Romania is constantly reviewing the opportunities on the energy supplier markets, which would allow expansion".
Even though the licence to supply has been obtained rather recently, the company is already negotiating intensely with its potential consumers. "Thanks to our experience in the natural gas sector, we want to attract customers by an integrated gas and electricity offer", Mr. Stănescu said.
In the beginning, WIEE Romania will only target the domestic electricity market, without prospecting the options to export and import energy in the region, the company"s general manager says. WIEE Romania currently focuses on the day ahead market trades.
WIEE Romania estimates that the environment for trading electricity in Romania is transparent, and the market has a huge growth potential over the next years.
WIEE is currently focusing on the Romanian natural gas market, in particular on larger customers such as Termoelectrica, Electrocentrale Bucureşti, E.ON Gaz Romania and Distrigaz Sud (currently GDF Suez Energy). Romgaz also recently became a strategic customer for WIEE.
WIEE Romania was incorporated in the year 2000, as a company 100% affiliated to WIEE Zug. WIEE Romania began its commercial operations by selling domestically produced natural gas. The company has since then continuously expanded its operations, by including the sale and storage of natural gas, and project development.
Wintershall Erdgas Handelshaus Zug AG (WIEE) is a joint venture between Wintershall and OAO Gazprom. WIEE has interests in the companies WIEE Romania SRL (100%) and Wirom Gas (51%).
