Airlines In Romania See 50% Traffic Growth

Airlines based in Romania estimate a 50% increase in the number of passengers and an occupancy rate of over 80% this year. Representatives of the low-cost airline Germanwings, operating on the Cologne - Bucharest route three times a week, believe they will carry some 26,000 passengers this year and is planning to introduce new destinations, encouraged by the high occupancy rate.

Wizz Air is also a low-cost airline that plans to introduce new destinations, in addition to Britain, Italy and Spain. The company estimates some 500,000 passengers this year and 1 million next year.

Blue Air secured 450,000 passengers in 2006 and estimates 1 million this year. The company also has an occupancy rate of over 85% and plans to introduce flights to Stuttgart, London, Zurich, Greece and Cyprus.

My Air introduced flights to Paris, Barcelona and Bologna at the beginning of June and estimates an overall increase of 40% in the number of passengers. The company announced an occupancy rate of 75%.

British Airways announced a 66% increase in the number of passengers traveling to or via London. The company operates 14 flights to London per week.
