Alimentara - Iasi (RASDAQ:ALIQ) has announced the acquisition of 87.87% in Comat SA - Braila, which became a closed-end company in mid-2005. The funds came from a credit line opened with Piraeus Bank - Romania. Earlier this year, in May, the Alimentara shareholders authorized the executive management to borrow up to 9.3 million EUR from Piraeus Bank and mortgage a commercial space for this purpose. From the same financing source, Alimentara last month bought various movable assets of the bankrupt Arca SA - Botosani.
Alimentara SA - Iasi was established in 1948 and was for a long time a cornerstone of the Iasi County economy. The company is currently controlled by Danut Prisecariu with 55.43% (as of end-2005). Other significant shareholders are Moldova Marketing & Management Consulting SRL - IASI (25.32%) and Moldova Universal SA - Iasi (8.99%). Prisecariu also controls the hotels Traian and Astoria as well as the local television station Tele M.
