Almost 5,000 deals with shares of the "Proprietatea Fund", over the last two years

Between January 2008 and December 2010, the Central Depository recorded a number of 4,924 trades involving shares of the Proprietatea Fund. Over 7.29 billion shares exchanged owners during the aforementioned period, the institution announced in a press release sent out last week-end. The share capital of the Proprietatea Fund is divided into 13.77 billion shares.

The largest number of trades (3,439) took place last year, according to data from the Central Depository. 4.17 billion shares were traded in 2010, "Fondul Proprietatea". September 2010 was the month with the largest number of trades (536 deals), as well as the largest number of shares traded (786,798,088 shares), the press release of the institution states.

On December 17th, 2010, the Central Depository informed investors that it would only register transfers of shares in the Proprietatea Fund by December 21st, by invoking a Decision of the Romanian National Securities Commission which stipulates that trades involving the shares of the Proprietatea Fund must comply with the legislation of the stock market, after the shares of the Fund will be registered as securities, by issuing the afferent Certificate for the Registration of Securities (CIVM). In December last year, the Central Depository recorded 471 share trades, involving a number of 371,234,500 shares of the Proprietatea Fund.

The total number of transfers of shares in the Fund doubled in 2009, according to the Central Depository, reaching 1,034 transfers. Also, in 2009, the total number of shares transferred increased compared to 2008, to 2,075,239,317 shares, according to data provided by the Central Depository. The largest number of trades and the highest number of shares transferred were seen in September 2009 (135 trades and 347,239,726 shares).

In 2008, which was the first year when the authorities allowed trading of shares of the Proprietatea Fund, the Central Depository recorded 451 deals, with 1,037,375,288 shares being traded. June 2008 saw the largest number of transfers (65), whereas March 2008 saw the largest volume of shares change ownership (464,926,645 shares).
