The Board of Directors of Amonil - Slobozia has been mandated by the shareholders to negotiate a guarantee of up to 25 million USD for Distrigaz Sud - Bucharest in order to settle overdue debts and have the gas distributor resume gas supply, without which the fertilizers factory is idle.
For this purpose, Amonil is willing to collateralize with available assets, shares in Amochim SA and Energochim SRL and a 6 million USD receivable from Urban SA. Amonil is hoping to convince Distrigaz Sud to accept a reasonable price for the methane, to resume supply and to accept a reschedule of the debt for 36 - 48 months.
Amonil reported losses of 21.62 million RON for last year, compared to a profit of 2,062,644 RON in 2005. Some 40% of the loss was incurred in the first nine months of 2006 amid major increases in the price of methane. In the last months of 2006, only one production unit of the plant was operational.
