• A Spanish firm to manufacture Airbus components in on the Metrom platform
• With Premium Aerotec poised to make massive investments in Ghimbav, Aernnova - another company that manufacturers Airbus components - is in talks with a Braşov-based company to let production facilities
Aernnova European Components SRL, controlled by Spanish company Aernnova Aerospace and by its investment vehicle, Aernnova Aerospace International Investments SA, both registered in the Technology Park of Alava, are in advanced talks with a company spun-off from Metrom Braşov - Romcompresor.
The company was set-up in 2009, and will begin production this year in Braşov, at the same time with the other company that invested heavily in the aerospace sector - Premium Aerotec.
The arrival in Romania of Aernnova Aerospace comes after, signing a contract with Airbus in 2008, by which it entered the design and production program for the A 350 model.
According to company documents, the planned investment for this project exceeds 250 million Euros and involves the creation of 2,000 jobs starting in 2010, when the industrial development stage is set to begin. The investment should be worth it, since Aernnova expects to make around 1.5 billion dollars from this contract, over the first ten years and over 4.5 billion for the entire duration of the contract. Aernnova Aerospace SA owns plants in Spain, the US, Mexico and Brazil, and employs over 3,000 people.
• Premium Aerotec to begin production starting in autumn
The Airbus affair, one of the most important investment in Romania of the last few years, will begin in October, when the factory is expected to ship the first components for the airplane manufacturer made in Romania. In order to celebrate the moment, the German chancellor herself, Angela Merkel, could participate in the inauguration of the 45 million Euro plant, which will manufacture spare parts for the Airbus A 320 aircraft.
The Germans say that they opted for Ghimbav in particular due to the fact that this area has specialized workforce, which can be used efficiently, allowing the creation of quality products at optimum costs.
In March this year, was signed the contract the contract by which German company Premium Aerotec which is part of the EADS group, acquired a 60,000 sqm plot of land from IAR Ghimbav, on which it plans to build a factory which will manufacture parts for Airbus aircraft. The investment will amount to 45 million Euros, with its suppliers and partners to invest another 45 million.
The Premium Aerotec plant of Ghimbav expects to have a turnover of 700 million Euros over the next ten years and to create 700 jobs.
The first stage of the project, which consists of the construction of 10,000 of offices and industrial hangars, will be completed in 2010, and the complete investment will be inaugurated at the end of 2011. 300 people will be hired in the first stage, with 200 to be hired later. In September, the Ghimbav factory will begin production of plane fuselage parts for about 90 Airbus aircraft a year.
