The Agency for Payments and Intervention in Agriculture (APIA) has finalized the campaign to collect applications for complementary national direct payments for animal farmers. According to the centralized data, farmers submitted approximately 232,000 applications for 1,393,000 cattle and approximately 44,600 applications for 7,000,000 sheep and goats, as per a press release to BURSA.

"We will soon start performing administrative controls for all the applications, as well as on-site controls, which are mandatory for sheep and goats. Farmers are kindly requested to maintain the entire livestock stated in the application at the location stated in the application for the entire duration of the on-site controls in order not to risk losing the financial assistance," said Daniel Constantin, Director General of APIA.

The value of the financial assistance for cattle, sheep and goats will be decided by the Government depending on the number of eligible livestock ascertained during on-site controls. The complementary national direct payments are disbursed in the form of a premium per farm of cattle or a premium per head of sheep or goat.

This year, the premium per farm of cattle will also be disbursed to farms set up between 1 February 2008 - 31 January 2009. As for the premium per head of sheep or goat, the financial assistance is disbursed to farmers who owned at least 50 female sheep or 25 female goats aged at least one year by 31 March 2009.
