ArcelorMittal - Galati has finalized the implementation of the Automatic Gauge Control for Thick Sheet Steel Works no. 2, which required an overall investment of 8 million EUR, according to a press release from the company.

The Automatic Gauge Control and the newly implemented IT system will allow the optimization of the sheet steel thickness and the overall technological process. The quality parameters on thickness will therefore be twice as good as the current norms of the European Union, while the metal consumption will decrease. The equipment is currently undergoing final tests. Thick Sheet Steel Works no. 2 has become the Group"s largest thick sheet steel production unit, followed by Burns Harbor in the United States and Gijon in Spain.

ArcelorMittal - Galati has also finalized the investment in the dedusting installation on Steel Works no. 1. The newly installed equipment allows the efficient aspiration of gas and dust emissions generated when loading and unloading pig iron in torpedo ladles or in other technological steps of steelmaking. Due to this investment the dust emissions of Steel Works no. 1 have been reduced by approximately 95%.
