The Romanian Agency for Durable Development of Industrial Areas (ARDDZI) and the Ministry of the Economy announced that contracts for the execution of infrastructure works in several towns will be signed this week. The towns which will undergo infrastructure works include Motru (county of Gorj), Iablaniţa (county of Caraş-Severin), Nucet (county of Bihor) and Cavnic (county of Maramureş). Also, by the end of 2009, works will begin in 47 other towns that were affected by the restructuring of the mining industry: Abrud, Baia de Arieş, Baia Sprie, Bălan, Bistra, Borşa, Chiejd, Iara, Petrila, Rodna, Tăuţii Măgherăuş, Albeni, Alunu, Bălteni, Berbeşti, Berzeasca, Bobota, Bozovici, Ghelari, Sărmăşag, Slivileşti, Şotânga, Stejaru, Urdari, Vulcan, Almaşu Mare, Aninoasa, Băiţa, Brad, Comăneşti, Criscior, Dobreşti, Iacobeni, Lupeni, Lupşa, Ocna Mureş, Oraviţa, Oţelu Roşu, Petroşani, Popeşti, Rovinari, Roşia Montană, Sasca Montană, Teliuc, Uricari, Zlatna.
The contracts will be presented in public urban meetings the cities of Motru (July 14th, 14:00 hours), Iablaniţa (July 15th, 11:00 hrs), Nucet (July 16th, 11:00 hours) and Cavnic (July 17th, 11:00 hours). 15 of the 51 works which are part of this program are already in the review and contract signing stages. In less than four months since its inception, ARDDZI took all the necessary steps to launch the infrastructure works in the aforementioned areas, and has allocated the resources required for their execution. The works initiated by ARDDZI through the "Municipal Infrastructure" Program are part of the "Project for the Shutdown of Mines, Environmental Recovery and Social-Economic Regeneration", funded through a loan agreement with the World Bank, ratified through the Law 167/2005. The goal of the program is the rehabilitation of infrastructure in the areas which were hit the hardest by industrial restructuring.
