Assets of Romanian banks were valued at 328.89 billion lei, at the end of June, a 17.53% increase YOY and a 1% decrease compared to the end of March, according to data by the NBR.
The net annualized profit compared to the average value (ROA) was 0.05, at the end of June, after up from its previous value of -0,25 at the end of March.
The ratio between the net annualized profit and own average equity (ROE) also increased from -2.9 at the end of March to 0.64 at the end of June.
Operating profitability ratio (the ratio between operational earnings and operational expenses) decreased 15% over March and 17.1% over December, to 148.75 at the end of the first semester. Gross lending continued to exceed deposits, but at a lower rate, namely 19.23% at the end of June, compared to 24.69% at the end of March and 22.03% at the end of 2008. Overdue loans and uncertain loans have reached 1.03% of the total number of loans after the first semester, from 0.66% at the end of the first quarter, namely 0.32% at the end of 2008.
The solvency ratio for the 43 banks stood at 13.51% after the first semester, up from its value of 13.16% at the end of the first quarter. The NBR requires a minimum solvency ratio of 8%, but the recommended value is 10%.
Leverage - the ratio between the own tier 1 funds and the total assets - stood at 6.92, up over the value at the end of March - 6.81, compared to 7.3 at the end of H1 2008, and 8.13 at the end of December 2008.
The solvency ratio and the leverage effect only include commercial banks and Creditcoop, without taking into consideration the 11 branches of foreign banks, as they do not notify these two indicators to the NBR.
