"Audi" sees record sales in China and the US

"Audi", the luxury car division of "Volkswagen" AG - the largest European carmaker- has increased its global sales by 7.7% YOY in July, on the back of increased demand in China and the US.

Last month, "Audi" delivered 91,400 SUVs and cars, compared to 84,853 units in July 2009. In the first seven months, of 2010, the sales of the German company increased 17%, to 646,300 units.

"Our sales in China more than tripled in July", said the sales manager of "Audi", Peter Schwarzenbauer.

Audi"s sales in China increased 53% YOY in July, to 20,537 units, and 22% in the US, to 7,817 units. Both regions saw record levels of sales.

"Audi" has set the goal of surpassing "Bayerische Motoren Werke" AG (BMW) as the top premium carmaker, by 2015. "Audi" is targeting record sales, of over 1.08 million vehicles this year, up 14% over 2009.

The H1-2010 operating profit of the "Volkswagen" group amounted to 2.84 billion Euros, of which "Audi" accounted for 1.33 billion Euros.
