Mr. Cazacu told us: "This is Turkey: it has no qualms about allying with whoever it wants. Those who rule Turkey are only interested in the welfare and prosperity of their own citizens and therefore have no qualms about making certain decisions".

The decision of the authorities in Ankara to officially request Turkey's accession to BRICS is motivated by the need for this state's cooperation with other countries in Asia, claims military expert Aurel Cazacu.

Mr. Cazacu told us: "This is Turkey: it has no qualms about allying with whoever it wants. Those who rule Turkey are only interested in the welfare and prosperity of their own citizens and therefore have no qualms about making certain decisions. We want it, we don't want it, the work at BRICS is very interesting, especially since at the global level nine countries out of the top ten in the world in terms of population are part of BRICS. Only the USA, in third place in terms of population, is not a member of this organization. In my opinion, Turkey needs this cooperation in the Asian area and that is why it joins BRICS, especially since it is an economic community. I don't think anyone will blame Turkey for this request, nor will it be kicked out of NATO, because the military facilities of this country and those that the US has there are complex and important for allies in the current geostrategic context of the Middle East."

The military expert also brought up another issue: Turkey's entry into BRICS would provide the US with a new way of dialogue and communication with the members of this organization, including China and the Russian Federation.

Aurel Cazacu stated: "I do not exclude the possibility that the decision of the authorities in Ankara was made with the approval of the US, which in the current global situation, in which communication with the Russian Federation seems interrupted due to the conflict in Ukraine and communication with China is difficult because of the tensions between Beijing and Taiwan, it needs a mediator, an external communication channel with the authorities of the two big states. At the moment, globally we are witnessing a battle for economic supremacy between the US and China. Under these conditions, the US could, through Turkey, dialogue with the BRICS for certain global, economic interests. Even though Turkey, through BRICS and through some political attitudes - see the condemnation of Israel for the action in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, is getting closer to China and the Russian Federation, yet the Turkish armed forces and the intelligence services of that country continue to fulfill NATO commitments" .

He concluded by saying that in his opinion the official request submitted by Turkey to be admitted as a member of BRICS is an action made with the agreement of global leaders who need dialogue and communication with the states of that organization.
