The energy savings certificate for buildings could become mandatory in March 2010. The management of thermal insulation maker "Austrotherm" said that most Romanian homes, which have inferior thermal insulation will become difficult to sell or rent. Requiring the existence of the energy certificate for real estate transactions could have a beneficial effect on raising interest for thermal rehabilitation and reducing energy consumption. Furthermore, rehabilitation of homes increases the value of homes. "Austrotherm", a member of Austrian group "Schmid Industrie Holding", owns three factories of expanded and extruded polystyrene in Romania.
