The Baneasa Airport near Bucharest reported a 30-40% increase in traffic in December compared to an average month. Exotic destinations contributed largely to this increase, according to Baneasa Airport General Manager Stefan Mladin. "The number of passengers who transited the Baneasa Airport in December last year reached some 170,000, compared to 100,000 on an average month," told Mladin

According to him, Romanians preferred exotic destinations such as Egypt, Tunisia, Malta, Cyprus, Italy and Spain. "The airport was absolutely full in December and early January," he said. The Baneasa Airport reported 5 million EUR in turnover for the first four months of 2008 and estimated 20 million EUR for the entire year. The traffic estimate for 2008 is 1 million passengers.
