Hotel operators in Brasov are one step ahead of the Romanian Government as many of them have made significant investments in green energy and are now offering tourists environmentally-friendly services. The hot water and part of the electricity used in several hotels are derived from solar energy. The Internet connections available in the rooms are wired, so as not to produce any radiations. The variety of green energy applications does not end here, as ingenuity knows no boundaries.
For example, the city of Brasov takes pride in a battery-powered hotel. "Our hotel is one of the ten hotels that have joined a project of Corporate Social Responsibility and Clean Production," Marketing Manager Madalina Butaru told BURSA. The hotel takes its electricity from a system of batteries, the air conditioning readily includes biological filtration, while Internet connections are wired, in order to keep radiation levels to a minimum.
Other hotel operators interested in saving energy now have the opportunity to access dedicated funding in order to implement systems based on renewable energy to power and heat their premises. Initially designed for seaside hotels, the Green House Programme has been extended countrywide. The original budget of 100 million RON has also been extended.
"We have considered it and have presented this option to the Board of Directors. The Green House Projects would very much reduce maintenance costs," said hotel manager Gabriel Florescu. "We would be interested in acquiring solar panels thorough a project like that. It would help us a lot. The energy costs would decrease and the environment would be more protected," hotel manager Dragos Tatu added.
