BCR privately managed pension fund eyes expansion

Ana Săbiescu

BCR Administrare Fond de Pensii (the pension fund owned by BCR) submitted the necessary documentation with the Commission for the Surveillance of the Romanian Private Pension System (CSSPP) for the approval of the merger of the pension fund managed by BCR with another two Second Pillar mandatory pension funds.

Also, on July 3rd, 2009, was completed the merger through absorption between BCR Fond de Pensii Administrat Privat and Omniforte. Following this transaction, Omniforte will cease to exist, and the license of its manager (Omniasig Fond de Pensii) will be revoked.

Simona Diţescu, General Manager of BCR Administrare Fond de Pensii, said: "The merger took about four months to complete, and the physical transfer of the participants and of the managed assets, was completed successfully, even though the time available was extremely short and a sizeable effort was required from both fund managers. Only 500 of the 70,000 participants in Omniforte, asked for a penalty exempt transfer to other private pension funds, which illustrates the success of this initiative".

Mrs. Diţescu added that BCR Fond de Pensii currently has around 230,000 validated contributors and it estimates that by the end of 2009, it will have approximately 270,000 contributors for the second pillar.
