Transportation, Construction and Tourism Minister Radu Berceanu has quit the commission managing the privatization of Daewoo Automobile Romania (DWAR) commenting that "I understand there is concern that my position as minister may be incompatible with my being a member of this commission."
He added that he had never asked to be appointed on the commission. Nonetheless, he said he was very interested in a matter that could affect the carmaker"s 4,000 employees. Berceanu stressed that he had not known he was going to be remunerated for his activity on the commission.
Labor Minister Gheorghe Barbu also withdrew from the DWAR privatization commission. Upon doing so, he commented that his appointment to the commission had been based on his professional experience and the social impact of the privatization process. The two withdrawals occurred shortly after President Traian Basescu had said: "The Government has ministers, but they are busy with privatization cases."
