Being widely known does not always equate to being appreciated, and if people like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, for example, are famous, they do not enjoy a positive perception among the majority of Americans, according to an analysis by visualcapitalist.com.
This brings to attention the results of a YouGov survey that asks Americans their opinion of various business personalities. YouGov highlights popularity by the percentage of those who have a positive opinion of a well-known person. Fame, on the other hand, shows the percentage of those who have heard of that person.
The survey reveals that most Americans do not have very good opinions about any of these business personalities, but Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, is the most appreciated, that is, has the highest popularity rating: 45%. In contrast, the percentage that shows his fame is 97%.
Interestingly, only 65% of Americans are familiar with Apple CEO Tim Cook, whose popularity is only 30%. Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump have high fame scores (93% and 88%, respectively) but relatively low popularity scores (36% and 31%).
Warren Buffett and Mark Cuban are relatively balanced in fame (87% and 84%), and their popularity scores are 44% and 43%.
Jeff Bezos, the founder of retail giant Amazon, has a fame of 91%, but a popularity of only 30%, while Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, enjoys a fame of 97% and a popularity of 37%. Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, has a fame of 94% and a popularity of 42%.
