The Brasov Water Company has decided to increase the unit price of the water distributed to households by 0.17 RON from 2.58 RON / cubic metre to 2.75 RON / cubic metre. The unit price for sewerage water has also been increased, from 1.07 RON / cubic metre to 1.42 RON / cubic metre. The new unit prices came into effect as of 1 July 2009. Teodor Popa, Economic Manager of the Brasov Water Company, explained that the price increase was necessary in order to repay the loan that the Company had taken to modernize the water distribution system in Brasov County. The overall value of the modernization programme is 189 million EUR.
"The pricing policy included in the contract for water distribution and sewerage service indicates that real operating costs plus funds for investments are to be reflected in the unit price. In this particular case, it is the loan that the Company has taken to cover its share of the modernization of the water distribution and sewerage system in Brasov," Economic Manager Teodor Popa explained BURSA.
The decision to increase the unit price was made by the Board of Directors of the Brasov Water Company and the management of the Inter-Community Development Association in Brasov County and has been authorized by the National Regulatory Authority for Public Utilities.
