The modernization of the Budapest-Belgrade railway is a win-win deal for Prime Minister Viktor Orban, because the stone needed for the embankment is supplied by a quarry whose owner is the father of the head of the Hungarian government, claims the Hungarian website 444.hu, quoted by hvg. huh.
The quoted source says: We learned about this from internal documents that we saw, and the information was confirmed by two transport companies. Lorinc Meszaros' companies were already known to be working as prime contractors on the giant, state-funded construction project. However, the details of the investment are kept secret, so until now we could not know that the close family members of Prime Minister Viktor Orban also benefit from it - but now we have obtained evidence of all this. According to the documents, in the period 2022-2023, over 200,000 tons of stone used for the respective railway were transported from Gant, from the Orban family mine. The stone in question was ordered by the company owned by Lorinc Meszaros. One of the documents also shows that the Chinese construction company, which is the main contractor of the work, was preparing to sign a contract worth 1 billion forints (ed. - about 2,536,623 euros) for the delivery of crushed stone from Gant.
The Hungarian journalists specify that the modernization of the respective railway section is the largest railway project in Hungary, and the value of the works amounts to over 800 billion forints (ed. - approximately 2.03 billion euros), and for the implementation of the project, the Hungarian state took a loan from China.
"It is as if every Hungarian citizen had taken out a loan of 70,000 forints, exclusively for the renovation of the Budapest-Belgrade railway line", claims the quoted source.
According to her, Gyozo Orban, Viktor Orban's father, is the owner of two quarries. The first is called Dolomit Kft, where Gyozo Orban owns 51.1% of the company, the rest of the shares being held by 10 people who each have a stake of 4.88%. The second is Gant-Ko, where the Hungarian Prime Minister's father is the sole shareholder, owning 100%. The quoted source shows that, according to the Opten database, Gyozo Orban also owns the PSU company Ingatlanfejszo es Beruhazo Kft.
