Businesswoman Camelia Şucu, is diversifying its businesses just as the crisis is in full swing. Her latest acquisition is the "Wholesale market" (Piaţa de Gros) of Bucharest, which it intends to modernize after she recently acquired it from the Ministry of Finance.
"Piaţa de Gros" Bucharest - "The Wholesale market"- (incorporated in 1993, through the contribution of several local banks) is the first Romanian company specializing in the collection, storage and sale of vegetables, fruit and flowers produced domestically. "Piaţa de Gros" was set up with the help of the German government, as part of a project financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The company which managed the market recently entered foreclosure, as it was unable to reimburse the loan it has taken from the Romanian state at its incorporation.
In order to recover some of the debt, the Ministry of Public Finance recently sold the assets of the market to Camelia Şucu, by way of an auction, for 3.8 million Euros.
"I want to turn this market into what could be truly called a European-standard wholesale market", says Camelia Şucu.
After acquiring its assets from the state one month ago, Mrs. Camelia Şucu recently set up a limited liability company called "Piaţa de Gros Administrare" SRL, in which she owns 5%. The remaining 95% is owned by Mrs. Katy Paşculea, who serves as administrator of the market.
On this subject, Camelia Şucu mentioned that the business is all hers: "It is my business, I am the one that bought the assets and I will be the one making the investments. Mrs. Paşculea will serve as administrator of the wholesale market, according to the legal provisions".
Katy Paşculea has already served as manager in another business of Camelia Şucu, namely "Class Năvădări", which has recently entered insolvency proceedings.
The administrator of the new company, Katy Paşculea, was also one of the important sponsors of the former PLD in the year 2007, (the liberal wing which later became the Liberal Democrat Party - PD-L - , after its merger with the Democratic Party - PD) in the year 2007, according to the Official Gazette.
• "I will be going to Rome for a case study"
Reporter : What are you going to do to help bring the Berceni wholesale market to European standards?
Camelia Şucu : First of all, at the end of June I plan to go to Rome, at a meeting of the representatives European wholesale markets, to see what a European wholesale market looks like.
Reporter: How much do you intend to invest?
Camelia Şucu.: At the moment, evaluators are reviewing the state that the market is in. However, major investments will be needed to modernize that location. For now we have hired a security and a sanitation company, to avoid further deterioration of the location. I intend to hire people for doing the sanitation of the market, meaning I will also help create new jobs.
