Aristotel Cancescu, chairman of the Brasov County Council, hinted that Brasov-based businessman Ion Tiriac was behind the liquidation of the local tractor factory Tractorul SA. "This is what I heard: a man with lots of money is behind it. I would like to see tractor production resumed, even if not under a partnership with Mercedes," Cancescu said.
Cancescu also took the opportunity to reply to Senator Nicolae Vlad Popa who had accused him of having bought the Tractorul kindergarten for pennies and then making Tractorul actually pay for it through advertising contracts with Mix Group, owned by Cancescu.
"I don"t see why he associates me with Relu Fenechiu and County Alderman Emil Nita... He might as well associate me with Madonna and Fidel Castro. I think that Senator Popa is frustrated because I took over his office as president of PNL - Brasov and now, seeing that PLD is not doing well in opinion polls in Brasov, he thinks it"s best to let out his frustrations by attacking me," Cancescu said.
Flavus Investitii SRL, controlled by Flavus Investment Limited - Cyprus, last week won the tender for the acquisition of the viable assets of Tractorul SA for 77 million EUR plus VAT for the movable assets. Victor Vadeneaux, an associate of Silviu Savin, the managing director of Flavus Investitii, said some 100 million EUR was going to be invested in Tractorul.
