Vehicle sales totaled 297,162 units last year, up by 15.9% from 2005, according to the Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA). Of this total, car sales accounted for 256,364 units, up by 18.9% year-on-year. Sales of commercial vehicles reached 38,285 units, down by 2.4% year-on-year. Bus sales gained 52.6% to 2,513 units.
Romanian companies imported 166,127 cars last year, up by 35.7% from 2005, and exported 80,478 units, up by 37% year-on-year. As for commercial vehicles, exports surged 494% to 446 units. Dacia was the best-selling brand with 107,777 units (36.3% market share), followed by Renault with 23,500 units (7.9% market share) and Daewoo with 23,186 units (7.8% market share). Next came Skoda (20,541 units), Volkswagen (17,322 units), Peugeot (13,119 units) and Fiat (12,844 units).
