The failed state that President Klaus Iohannis was talking about is an everyday reality, if we add to the statement of the head of state and the statement of Cătălin Predoiu, the Minister of Internal Affairs, who said, at two working meetings with the police in the territory, that the data he has at the provision regarding citizens' lack of trust in the administration indicates a tendency to ignore and disregard the law.
"The data we have available on the evolution of crime, those on citizens' lack of trust in the administration and law enforcement institutions, indicate the trend of ignoring and disobeying the law. It is an urgent social requirement to revitalize the action of police structures and I ask you to increase the professionalism of law enforcement. We have to face reality, there are citizens who ignore the law, some systematically, others in organized crime structures, which is unacceptable. One of the causes of this phenomenon is the decrease - in some inspectorates and by some policemen - of professional deontology and exigency. Faced with such situations, I will use all my legal powers to remove these institutional realities", said Cătălin Predoiu, according to a press release sent yesterday by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The statement was made during two working meetings that he had, together with the Secretary of State Bogdan Despescu, with the people in charge of public order structures in Alba and Arad counties.
Cătălin Predoiu stated that the police act foreshadows the act of justice, and the policeman's obligation is "to act legally, without other interference, with passion, flair, integrity and without fear".
"The data on the evolution of crime and the low level of trust of citizens in the administration and law enforcement institutions led to the conclusion that a revitalization of the police structures is necessary," says the Minister of Internal Affairs.
Cătălin Predoiu pointed out several principles that must govern the activity of law enforcement: political neutrality - in the sense that the application of the law must not be influenced by political factors, but must be based on strict compliance with the law -, equality before the law - which implies that regardless of the social status or financial situation of citizens, the law must be applied without any discrimination or favoritism -, integrity and the rebuilding of trust in the relationship between the police and citizens.
