The number of cars produced in China in the first ten months of 2009 passed the 10 million mark, the Association of Chinese Automakers (CAAM), said. Thus, China could become the world"s largest carmaker this year. The only other countries to attain that mark were the United States and Japan.
In September 2009, China produced 1.36 million cars, up 78% over September 2008, aside from the 9.66 million units made in the first nine months of 2009. According to official data, China produced 9.34 million vehicles last year, and sales amounted to 9.38 million. By year end, China"s auto industry could produce over 12 million vehicles.
