City of Focşani to host the 18th Edition of "Bachus" Vine and Winemaking Festival

Just like every year, at the time when grape juice turns into wine, the Council of the County of Vrancea is hosting in Focşani, the Festival of Vine and Winemaking "Bachus" 2010". Having reached its XVIIIth Edition, the event will take place this week-end (October 22nd October 24th).

The organizer of the event announced that the fair will bring together regional, national and foreign winemakers, most of the latter from France and Spain. The fair will also feature traditional foods such as honey, smoked cheese, pickled mushrooms or Romanian typical meat dishes.

Small winemakers from the county of Vrancea will also attend the Festival, by participating in the wine tasting contest "Bachus 2010" - the Small Winemaker section. The contest held by the Association of Certified Wine Tasters will award prizes to the best wines made by small producers of the Vrancea County.

Concerning the event of Focşani, the organizers stated: "It is only by organizing this kind of events that we can help the county of Vrancea become a pillar to the winemaking market. It is only this way that we can bring the Grape and Wine Exchange to the County of Vrancea, and fulfill the wish of vine growers whose interests the Council of the County of Vrancea represents. We hope that the grape juice which has acquired a tangier taste by aging, the flavor of mulled wine, the delicious taste of smoked cheese and pickled mushrooms, the skills of the craftsmen and the traditions dating back hundreds of years, which have been faithfully preserved in the mountains of Vrancea, will delight the citizens of the county and all the guests which are invited to attend the "Bachus 2010" Vine and Winemaking Festival".

The Vrancea region - one of the largest winemaking areas in Romania - has over 25,000 hectares of vineyards, and the county of Vrancea is renowned for its high quality grapes and wines and for its usage of traditional wine making methods.

Vrancea is also home to the so-called Wine Road, which spans 20 km and is strewn with wine cellars and vineyards. Going back to the mist of time, the wine cellars of the ruler Ştefan cel Mare of Panciu or the Royal Wine Cellar of Odobeşti are some of the region"s famous tourist attractions.
