The Competition Council has authorized the economic concentration resulting from the acquisition of Proton Technologies by Vodafone Romania, a press release reads. "The Council has found that the effects of this economic concentration on the competition environment are not significant. The acquisition is not likely to lead to the restriction, termination or significant distortion of competition on the relevant markets. The Council therefore decided not to object," the press release reads.
As per the Competition Law, the Competition Council must be notified to analyze potential infringement on the principles of fair competition if an economic concentration is about to be created and the following conditions are met cumulatively: the aggregate turnover of the companies involved exceeds 10,000,000 EUR, at least two companies involved operate in Romania and each of their respective turnovers exceeds 4,000,000 EUR.
Vodafone Romania is a mobile telecom operator controlled by Vodafone Group. Proton Technologies is a telecom product and service distributor in Romania.
