Teleorman: Payoffs for adoptions

The head of the Social Services and Child Protection of the county of Teleorman, Floarea Alesu, is suspected of having received 1,000 Euros for each child she gave away for adoption, according to Agerpres.

According to the findings of the investigations led by the prosecutors, between 2005 and 2012, 12 children have been given for adoption to families who paid for each of them 1,000 Euros each.

Following the hearings by the National Anti-corruption Department, Floarea Alesu said that she did not take any money in exchange for giving the children away for adoption, and that no evidence has been found to prove her guilt.

"They've seized some planners which had some notes in them and a few documents which I had received from the Social Services and Child Protection Department to the maternal assistants. They told me that I am not being indicted, only suspected. Which is why they came looking for evidence. I did not take any money for the adoptions. These complaints were made a long time ago. I've had some complaints filed against me with the National Integrity Agency as well. It was found that everything was legal", she said.

The prosecutors of the DNA yesterday searched the homes of several people in the cities of Alexandria and Roşiori de Vede in the county of Teleorman, as well as the headquarters of the Social Services and Child Protection of Teleorman.

At the headquarters of the DGASPC, work with the public has been put on hold, and the filing of papers for people with disabilities which was supposed to take place in the early morning, has been rescheduled for today.
