Cosmote Romania reported a 54% increase in corporate traffic in Q1, compared to the corresponding period of 2008, the company announced on Wednesday. Cosmote also announced that the average number of minutes on the corporate segment had increased by 67% compared to Q1-2008.
"The corporate segment is one of the company"s priorities for 2009, following the implementation of a concerted strategy on products, services and sales force last year. It was also last year that Cosmote reorganized and expanded direct sales activities to better respond to the needs of small- and medium-sized companies on the one hand, and the major accounts on the other. Our cooperation with Romtelecom also contributed to the growth of this category of customers," said Cosmote Romania Sales and Customer Care Director Nickolaos Choumis.
Cosmote Romania closed the first quarter with an EBITDA of approximately 13 million EUR and a 44% year-on-year increase in the number of customers to 6.1 million, equal to a market share of 23%. The weight of the subscribers reached 20% of the total number of customers, up by 62% year-on-year.
Cosmote Romania is part of the Greek-based telecom group OTE and was established in 2005. In turn, OTE reported an 89% year-on-year increase in net earnings to 267 million EUR. The company also announced a 5.4% decrease in sales to 1.45 billion EUR amid intensified competition on both the mobile and fixed telephony markets.
