National Liberal Party leader Crin Antonescu yesterday said that there are signs that the head of state, Traian Băsescu, PD-L or PSD want a rearrangement of the political scene before the presidential elections.

The Liberal however emphasized that his party would not support any government or enter any coalition before this autumn"s elections.

At the end of the reunion of the parliamentary groups and of the Central Political Office of the National Liberal Party, Crin Antonescu said: "We have reaffirmed the decision of the NLP not to get involved in the government and to not support any government - either the current one or another created by the same political factions - before the presidential elections. This decision was taken unanimously by the entire Central Political Office of the party, by all senators and deputies".

Crin Antonescu said that "there are all kinds of rumors, diversions and possibly real attempts by president Traian Băsescu, or by other leaders of the Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L) or of the Social Democrat Party (PSD) to rearrange or reshape the current government".

Were Liberals contacted by PSD and PD-L?

"PNL stands firm in its decision to not get involved in the government and to not support any government before the presidential elections", the Liberal leader said, according to Newsin.

When asked if he has clear signs and whether he was contacted by PSD and PD-L, Antonescu replied that "there are clear political signals, which were obviously given unofficially".

Crin Antonescu said: "In my opinion, president Traian Băsescu is very interested in attempting a new stunt before the finish of the presidential elections. But no, the Government needs to see its mandate through and needs to be held accountable for the way it has made fun of this country for the past nine months ".

The leader of the PNL refused to provide further information on the subject and on the alleged contacts he had with PSD or PD-L.

Liberals want a vote of no confidence

Moreover, Antonescu announced that the NLP wants to initiate a vote of no confidence, but the fate of the latter depends on the parliamentaries of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) who are as yet undecided.

A decision on this matter may be made in the coming days.

The president of the National Liberal Party said that liberals have discussed the request to investigate the "illegal recordings in the Chamber of Deputies", as well as the possible hearing of the Ministers of Defense and Economy, and even of the head of the Security Service by the Defense Commissions.
