"Lucrări Drumuri şi Poduri" (LDP) SA, ("Bridge and Road Works"), a company fully owned by the County Council of Iaşi, won the auction for the rehabilitation of County Road DJ 249A Iaşi - Ungheni, with a bid of 1.26 million lei (EUR 297,000). The project, funded by the European Union, through the 2004 - 2006 Romania-Republic of Moldova Cross Border Cooperation Program (PHARE CBC 2005), has a total budget of EUR 476,000 available, of which EUR 423,600 in European grants. However, cash strapped companies submitted tenders far below the estimated price.
"Work is scheduled to begin on July 27, and the works have a 20-day deadline", said Georgeta Gâlcă, manager of LDP SA. She said hopefully the company can meet the deadline.
The project is intended to rehabilitate and modernize the road segment connecting Cristeşti and Mânzăteşti, which begins at km 7+200 and ends at km 9+900. The following works will be performed: reinforcement of the road"s structure, correcting the geometric elements of the road, normalizing the surface of the road, creating a system for collecting and purging rainwater, as well as installing new road signs, Sebastian Tătaru, spokesperson of the county council of Bra ov said.
It took two auctions to select a successful bidder, as the first auction was challenged by one of the seven bidders. The challenge was accepted by the National Complaint Office.
