Romanian carmaker Dacia will produce an additional 140 cars/day, going from 1200 to 1340 vehicles a day, starting on June 15th, following the adoption by several European countries (including Romania) of programs for the revival of the automotive markets, and the increased foreign demand for Dacia vehicles.
The carmaker said the 500 people it plans to hire will be mainly recruited from among former employees whose temporary contracts hadn"t been extended. On top of that, the company said it would extend the contracts of another 400 temporary employees.
The Dacia plant has halted production several times these past few months, following the decline of the automotive sales since the beginning of 2008. The factory"s employees went into technical unemployment between October 30th - 31st, November 13th - 14th, November 20th - December 7th, December 11th 2008 - January 11th 2009 and January 26th - February 8th 2009.
In 2008, Dacia sold over 239 000 cars, up 18470 YOY, whereas Dacia Logan MCV had the largest demand, according to the company"s report. The carmaker"s turnover for 2008 exceeded 7.64 billion lei, up 10% YOY, mostly due to exports, whereas domestic sales declined.
