Damen Shipyards Galaţi is an atypical case for the way in which the central authorities understand to collaborate with foreign companies that have opened subsidiaries in our country, collaboration that leads to the endowment of the Romanian Army. Although the main activity of the Damen Galaţi shipyard, where 1500 people are employed and which last year recorded a profit of 31.3 million lei, is the construction of military and commercial ships, the successive governments at the Victoria Palace in the last 10 years seemed more concerned with political games than actually providing the Romanian Naval Forces with the necessary warships.
During all this time, the Damen Galati Shipyard has built several logistic support ships for the Royal Dutch Naval Forces, patrol ships (corvettes) for the Pakistani Navy, but also for the Mexican Naval Forces and the Portuguese Naval Forces. As proof that the ships built in Galati are of the best quality, at the beginning of this year the Damen Shipyard took over the construction of a drone aircraft carrier for the Portuguese Naval Forces, a project that constitutes a global premiere.
