"Danone" has a 60% share of the Romanian yogurt market

• "Danone" Launches The "Appetite For Health" Campaign

Production of "Danone" yogurt has begun in the company"s Bucharest factory in 1999. Prior to that, the company which had been incorporated in 1996, had been distributing yogurt which it imported from France, Hungary and Poland.

"Currently, 5 to 10% of our domestic output is exported to countries in the Adriatic region, Bulgaria, Greece and the Republic of Moldova. The company has a 60% share of the yogurt market. About 1 million units are produced per day (boxes which come in various sizes), which get sold on the same day, as the company doesn"t keep inventories ", said dr. Bogdan Ioachim, corporate Affairs "Nutrition&Science" director for Eastern Europe.

Yesterday, "Danone" launched the program "Appetite for health", about which dr. Bogdan Ioachim had the following to say: "The < Appetite For Health > launched by < Danone > Romania, has begun its first stage of attracting < ambassadors > from among its 710 employees. In the second stage, we will extend the campaign to consumers with their help, in order to create healthy nutrition habits ".

Mr. Ioachim said: "As market leader, our company, wants to make consumers aware that healthy food helps protect them from two serious diseases: obesity and diabetes. Around 18-20% of adults and 5-8% of children suffer from obesity. Other 7% of adults suffer from diabetes and, over the last 5 years, type II diabetes, which previously only affected adults, has now begun affecting children".

The manufacturing process of Danone follows strict milk collection rules, in terms of hygiene. The rules are verified by way of internal and international audits, by ensuring refrigeration is provided inside the factories and all the way to the supermarkets.

As a market leader for fresh dairy products, "Danone" Romania has a portfolio which exceeds 60 brands. The most important brands are Activia, Danonino, Actimel, Nutriday, Cremosso, Danette, and "Casa Bună".
