Actavis, one of the leading producers of generic drugs, intends to build a factory some 15-20 kilometers from Bucharest as the former Sindan factory has reached maximum capacity, according to Jonas Tryggvason, VP for Central and Eastern Europe. Actavis acquired Sindan, the only producer of oncologic drugs in Romania in 2006.

Tryggvason also said the factory was going to have three modules, of which the first would cost 50 million EUR and be commissioned in 2009. According to him, Sindan would continue to produce oncologic drugs, especially considering the factory"s GMP certification and notable exports.

The new factory will have some 300 employees and will focus on diabetics treatment. Concurrently, Actavis has set up a retail network to promote Actavis products on the Romanian market. The company will introduce 15 new products on the Romanian market this year to support the oncologic portfolio.
