The Ministry of the Economy, Commerce and Business Environment yesterday declared a state of emergency due to the extremely low temperatures of the last few days.
On one hand this will entail stopping delivery of natural gas to interruptible consumers and on the other hand, switching Electrothermal Power Plants (CET) to alternative fuels, which would allow SNTGN Transgaz to handle the system more efficiently, in order to ensure that the delivery of gas natural gas, warm water and heat to the population is not disrupted.
The Commission for coordinating the supply of natural gas, chaired by the secretary of state on energy issues, Tudor Şerban, met yesterday in the presence of the Minister of the Economy, Commerce and Business Environment, Adriean Videanu. The members of the Commission discussed information referring to the amounts of natural gas needed to cover the consumption of the population, as well as discuss the situation created by the extremely low temperatures recorded these last few days (the average temperature countrywide decreased to minus 17.9 Celsius degrees Monday morning).
According to the Law no. 346/2007 concerning the measures for ensuring the supply of natural gas, SNTGN Transgaz SA has requested that the Commission check whether the difficulties in supplying consumers with natural gas warrant declaring a state of emergency.
