The Central Electoral Office (BEC) yesterday announced the final results of the first round of the presidential elections and of the referendum. Traian Băsescu had 32.44% of the votes, Mircea Geoană had a score of 31.15%, and Crin Antonescu had 20.02%, according to the quoted source. This puts Traian Băsescu 1.29% ahead of Mircea Geoană.
Corneliu Vadim Tudor took the third spot, with 5.56% and Kelemen Hunor received 3.83% of the votes.
Independent candidate Sorin Oprescu had a score of 3.18%, and George Becali won 1.91% of voters. The other candidates ranked below the 1% threshold, as follows: Remus Cernea 0.62%, Constantin Rotaru 0.44%, Eduard Manole 0.35%, Ovidiu Iane 0.23% and Ninel Potârcă 0.21%.
9,946,748 voters participated in the elections, meaning 54.37% of citizens with the right to vote attended the elections.
For the referendum, vote attendance was 50.95%. 88.4% of voters voted in favor of cutting the number of members of the Parliament to a maximum of 300, whereas 77.78% voted in favor of a Parliament with a single house.
