ECS Romania, a subsidiary of Societe Generale, began operations on the Romanian market on Wednesday and revealed plans to rent 6,000 computers and servers and attract 100 customers by the year-end. By 2010, the company wants to rent 40,000 computers, according to CEO Jacques Sorrel.
"We have 10 customers at the moment. Romania is a 7 billion EUR market and the IT leasing market has been estimated at 1.5 - 2 billion EUR," he said. ECS currently manages over 1 million computers, 64,000 servers and 400,000 peripherals for 12,000 customers in 16 countries. The latest turnover is 1.8 billion EUR.
"We intend to outsource to ECS a part of our IT system and thus lower the BRD budget for IT, which is currently 25 million EUR/year," said BRD - GSG President Patrick Gelin. ECS is planning to also approach Romanian companies as potential customers and acquire a Romanian IT company by 2010.
