Elisa Ferreira, the European Commissioner for Regional Policy, stated yesterday, in Brussels, according to Hotnews, that our country will not lose, due to the excessive budget deficit, the European funding allocated to it, but mentioned that the adjustments proposed by the Romanian government.
According to the quoted source, during a conference on the occasion of the inauguration of the 21st edition of the Week of the Regions, Elisa Ferreira said: "We are in permanent discussions with the Government of Romania, I had many meetings with the previous ministers, I have already met and with the new minister and I think we have a very good cooperation. We cannot predict what will happen until we close the account. But I trust that Romania will not lose the funding. Of course, it is true that we must operationalize and speed up all the adjustments that are proposed by Romania, in order to readjust certain funds, to reallocate others. In the case of Romania, we see a lot of progress, a lot of quality, and I have the conviction and hope that we will be able to use all the funds in relevant projects until the end. Of course, some projects started in the 2014-2020 period will not be finished, but they will have continuity because all efforts have been made in this regard, and this is best observed in the health infrastructure".
We remind you that at the end of last month the Government pledged its responsibility in Parliament for a series of tax increases, including for micro-enterprises, in order to reduce our country's budget deficit. Contrary to the estimates of the International Monetary Fund, Romania will end 2023 with a budget deficit of 6% of the gross domestic product, and in 2024 the deficit will decrease to 5% of GDP.
